PREPARATION AND PUBLICATION OF SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES ASSISTED BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technological revolution that has transformed all areas of modern society, fostering improvements in quality of life as well as unpredictable potential risks in its use. The production and dissemination of scientific work is not immune to this technological whirlwind, which significantly impacts it by enabling the analysis of vast amounts of information, generating ideas to improve or develop scientific texts, facilitating peer review, and increasing productivity in production and editing. While there is currently no consensus on the partial or total adoption of its tools, The truth is that, in this field, there is increasing pressure to boost productivity and remove what has become a bottleneck for scientific progress. In this regard, we are witnessing a surge in AI applications to optimize grammar and spelling, improve writing, process large amounts of quantitative data, and, in collaboration with peers and editors, detect ethical deviations to guarantee originality, integrity, quality, and productivity—aspects that, in the traditional approach, are outsourced. Given this reality, the need for ethical frameworks, algorithmic transparency, and a balanced relationship between human needs and the analytical capacity of technological intelligence is emphasized. This essay presents an exposition on the impact of AI on the creation and dissemination of scientific output. It offers a profile of the characteristics of AI, specifically Generative AI, and some of the latter’s tools applied to scientific production and publication. It also analyzes regulatory approaches, offers reflections, and provides guidance for decision-making and actions that respond to the rapid pace of change in these technologies, given the lag in national regulation, and thus contributes to the ongoing debate.
