PROPOSAL FOR THE URBAN REHABILITATION OF THE TOWN CENTER OF EL VIGÍA WITH CRITERIA OF UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The functionality of El Vigía’s city center is limited by heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic, as well as the occupation of sidewalks by informal vendors, which hinders the mobility of people with disabilities. In response to this situation, research was conducted to formulate an urban rehabilitation proposal based on universal accessibility and sustainability criteria. To this end, the methodology employed is typical of a project-level field study. The process began with a diagnosis of land use and activities in the area to identify critical problems. The results of this diagnosis informed the design phase of the architectural proposal, which aims to reduce environmental impact and create an inclusive urban center. The project is presented through plans (floor plans, sections, and road cross-sections), 3D modeling, renderings, and a concept image, all in compliance with current regulations. As a result of the findings, the project’s viability and the benefits it offers to the city and its citizens were determined. Recommendations were also made to the Mayor’s Office of the Alberto Adriani Municipality and other government entities regarding the need to consider urban rehabilitation projects like the one proposed. These recommendations focused on applying accessibility and sustainability criteria, as well as the selection of materials and furnishings within the context of these criteria, and the importance of minimizing the environmental impact of similar projects.
